Island Batik “Try a Tool” Blog Hop with Studio 180 Design.

The items used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik as part of their 2021 Ambassador program.

Hi Guys,

Welcome to my stop on the Island Batik “Try a Tool” Blog Hop with Studio 180 Design. For this months challenge we had to make a quilt using the new ruler we recieved in our second Ambassador boxes, and a brand new fabric collection, mine being Sun Kissed Soleil designed by Kathy Engle for Jackie Kunkel. This super fun and vibrant collection ships to stores this month! The ruler i used is the Wing Clipper, its makes the perfect Flying Geese unit in multiple sizes ranging from 1″ to 10″. Deb Tuckers rulers are so fun and one of the things i love is that there is hardly any fabric waste.

For ths project i used the largest block unit which measures 10″ x 5″ finished, This size really showcases the fabrics and you can see all the gorgeous prints from the collection.

I made 72 blocks in total and my quilt finishes at 60″ x 60″. I pieced and quilted using Aurifil 50wt thread in colour 2024, Hobbs 100% Cotton batting and a Schmetz Micro-tex sharp chrome needle 80/12.

Please do check out my fellow Ambassadors, This Blog Hop has been so fun and so many beautiful quilts have been made! Check out the list and dates here xx

Island Batik are also doing a Giveaway this week, Enter here for chance to win some of these gorgeous fabrics!

Thankyou so much for reading!

Until next time…

Island Batik August Challenge

The items used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik as part of their ambassador program 2020

Hey Guys,

Its that time again when I get to share with you my latest make as an Island Batik ambassador, This month was all about trying a new tool and that tool being a Studio 180 Design ruler by the fab Deb Tucker.

The Ruler I received is called Diamond Rects and as you can see from the pic it is transparent so perfect if you want to incorporate fussy cutting into your block. You can also make 5 different sized diamonds. The ruler is very well labelled and comes with a very helpful information insert showing you fabric requirements and step by step instructions to cut every piece you need for the block easily.

One of the things I love about this ruler is each time you construct the block, its always slightly bigger than you need so you can trim every one perfectly to the correct size, I find with most rulers they pretty much cut to the exact size and there isn’t much wriggle room to trim, that’s not the case with this one and its fab!

For the the centre diamonds on this quilt I used a 10″ stack of Island Batik “Sweet Hearts” collection, I found the 10″ squares were perfect for cutting out the second largest size of block for this ruler. I also used a selection of blues from my stash, I’ve been wanting to make a blue quilt for a while now, and all the rainbow colours are so fun and really pop against the darker background! I pieced and quilted using Hobbs Batting 100% cotton, Aurifil 50wt in colour 2615 and Schmetz needles

This quilt has acquired the name “Beach blanket for one” and was claimed by my son on our holiday this year 🙂

Its been another awesome challenge and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it! big thanks to Island Batik and Industry partners, Deb Tucker for the brilliant ruler! I can definitely see more diamond quilts in my future, Hobbs Batting, Aurifil Thread and Schmetz needles.

Thankyou so much for reading

Until next time…

Happy Sewing! xx

Hey Guys,

Here’s a little peak at what i got…….

A super fun and bright fat quarter bundle of a collection called Color Pop designed by Kathy Engle.

A gorgeous (and i think my favourite from this this box) 2.5″ strip pack of Mandala Magic designed by Jackie Kunkel of Canton Village Quilt Works.

A selection of basics to tie in with the fabric collections we have received. A total of 6 yards.

4 yards each of black, white and grey solids and 4 yards of Almond from the neutrals range.

2 packs of these stash builder rolls, each strip is 5″ wide x WOF, you get 4 pieces in each roll and 5 rolls in each pack. These come in super handy!
