Island Batik Quilt Modern Blog Hop

The items used to make the quilt in this post were given to me by Island Batik as part of their 2021 Ambassador program.

Hey Guys,

Welcome to my stop on the Island Batik Quilt Modern Blog Hop! For this challenge our brief was to make a modern quilt using a brand new fabric collection! The fabric i recieved is called Forecast designed by Ebony Love of Lovebug Studios, a super fun collection of weather inspired prints in colour and low volume including suns, rain, thunder and clouds. The fab collection is shipping to stores this month.

I absolutely love modern quilts so this was a super fun challenge for me! i decided to start with improv crosses, making one cross in each of the fabrics from the collection, with the idea of adding negative space with the low volume prints of the line.

Once i was happy with my placement and design i stitched each block together into 8 rows of 5, and finished with matchstick quilting which i think looks so great on a modern quilt. For the stitching and quilting i used Aurifil 50wt thread in colour 2024 and Schmetz micro tex chrome needles, For the batting i used Hobbs 100% Hierloom Cotton and backed the quilt with Forecast – Ligntning Teal.

Its been aother super fun challenge with a super fun fabric collection! and i cannot wait to see what my fellow Ambassadors make, please see the schedule below to see who is posting on what days and be sure to enter each weekly giveaway here.

Island Batik March Challenge

The items used to make the quilt in this post were supplied to me by Island Batik as part of their 2021 Ambassador program.

Hi Guys,

Welcome to my Island Batik Ambassador March Post. This month was all about sewing with scraps, one of my favourite ways to sew! i like to keep most of my scraps and only throw away the tiniest of pieces, i literally keep anything 1.5″ or bigger. I sew with pink alot as its my favourite colour to sew so i had quite a few scraps and also a huge bag of white scraps too.

I decided to sew improv, its a great way to use odd bits/shapes of fabrics and it always looks cool! I kept sewing the pieces together until they made a 10″ square, i repeated this until i had 28 squares in total, using a mixture of pinks and whites.

Once i had all my squares sewn together i pin basted my layers. For the batting i used Hobbs 100% cotton.

I quilted using the matchstick method with Schmetz microtex chrome needles and Aurifil 50wt 2024. This thread was also used for the piecing.

My finished quilt measures 38″ x 66″ and its a beach blanket for one (for me) This is my second beach blanket to date and i plan to make one each for the whole family (hopefully before a next holiday).

I really enjoyed this challenge and im so happy with my new blanket!

Thankyou so much reading!

Until next time….

Happy Sewing!
